We stopped at the park office and got some tips on trails to hike and things to see over the next few days. We drove to the Skyline Trailhead and did an in and out hike on this well developed trail to a marvellous vista point.
About a km or so along the trail, we had our first moose sighting of the trip. A female that got fairly close to the trail.
Apparently, Cape Breton has an infestation of moose and they are eating all of the small trees and creating grasslands where there were once woods. Parks Canada is building large stockades to try to keep them out of areas they woud like to reforest.
Luckily the morning fog had dissipated and we were treated to some excellent views.
Next we went to a short boardwalk trail through a bog and saw some unusual insect eating vegetation and some noisy green frogs.
We returned to Cheticamp and did some exploring around the town and wharfs. For such a small town, there was a really dominating church!
The waterfront is typical fishing community. The fog was rolling in and out.
We took a walk out on the commercial wharf and happened to be there as they were unloading 30,000 lbs of crab from one boat!
The fishing fleet here is mostly crabbers and lobster boats. Very modern expensive looking fishing boats.
We then went to our Country Inn which was really nice, a newly renovated ex-Kinsman hall ex-schoolhouse. The owner had actually gone to primary school there and graduated in a class of six students.
We went back to town for another seafood supper and then looked for the optimum location to watch the sun set. Not sure if I found it but it looked pretty good.
