Ingonish and the Franey Trail

Another sunny day and pleasant temperatures. We decided to do a fairly vigorous hike on the Franey Trail just down the road from where we are staying.

It was advertised as a steep climb and it didn't disappoint! There was about 350 m of elevation gain in the 8.4 km hike. Unfortunately, drone photography is not allowed.

The trail started out fairly easy on a nicely developed path but quickly changed to a climb up a trail covered alternately in tree roots and rocks. Luckily in the most difficult areas they had installed wooden steps.

We saw some pretty wildflowers at some of our rest stops....

This was about half way up looking up the Clyburn River Canyon.

We made it to the summit and were treated to an Adirondack Chair and a fabulous panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean.

The route down was via an old logging road which was a bit rough in places but a lot less steep then the ascent path.

There have to be lots of moose here given the amount of moose poo we had to walk around.

It passed by lake MacDougall. No critter sightings today except for one snake.

After the hike we headed to The Main Street Restaurant and Bakery for a late light lunch. We checked out Ingonish Beach (very rocky) before heading back to the cottage to chill out for the remainder of the afternoon.

The owner of the cottages where we are staying recommended a restaurant a short distance away, "The Seagull". For some reason I have an aversion to any restaurant named that for fear of what might be substituted on the menu. We took a chance and found what looked to be a blue bungalow overlooking the sea. The parking lot was double parked and we had to find a place at the Rona across the street. What a great find! Decor, reminiscent of a prefabricate home. The food was great. I had the lobster dinner.

Definitely a low tech place with hand written bill (with great penmanship so good I had to take a photo)

Updates will be on hold for a couple of days as we take the ferry to "The Rock" tomorrow afternoon.
